The exact date of manufacture for this machine is unknown. We came to the date listed above by averaging the number of models produced 1910-1913 from the Typewriter Database, assuming equal output in each of the four years of production. If you review the instruction book on Richard Polt's site (http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/Bennettmanual.pdf), it appears to call for a non-ergonomically safe position, suggesting the typist uses straight fingers rather than curved so the soft part of the finger pushes down on the keys, and to type with either full hand or index fingers only, showing where our two-fingered typists may have come from. As you can see in the ad to your left, although tiny and light weight, this machine was not sold as a toy, but as a full typewriter. The ad is from page 71 of The Birmingham News, October 5, 1913, the same year the pictured Bennett was manufactured.
