Model 9
Blickensderfer Manufacturing Company
George Canfield Blickensderfer
Original Price: $25-50
1914
S/N: 145752
The model 9 is the last model of the Blickensderfer typewriters while the company was under the ownership of George C. Blickensderfer's family. Only 10,000 of the machines are thought to have been produced. They were manufactured in Stamford, Conn., at the factory depicted to your left. (Picture taken from a Blickensderfer Trade Catalog from the Smithsonian Libraries archives. You can find an electronic copy of that catalog on this site.) Although the Blickensderfer is notable for its DHIATENSOR keyboard design, this particular model 9 has a 3-row QWERTY keyboard. As evidenced by the "$" symbol on the keyboard, and lacking any other foreign markings, it seems this machine was made for the American market.
