The Gundka typewriter was originally sold as a toy for children, who could play with it as they grew up. It is seen in advertisements alongside the Simplex typewriter, another popular type-writing toy. The advertisement to the left is for Hale Department Store, posted in the San Francisco Examiner on December 14, 1924. This store is now listed on the national register of historic places in San Francisco.
