Remington

The Remette is a standard portable typewriter produced by the Remington Rand company. Remington Rand formed in 1927 from the merger of the Remington Typewriter Company, post-acquisition of the Noiseless Typewriter Company, and the Rand Kardex Corporation. Employees of this newly formed company felt they were not treated fairly, and in 1936 held a union strike. This is the strike that inspired the president of the company, James Rand, Jr., to craft the Mohawk Valley formula, a method for manufacturers to break union strikes via propaganda. The Remette was manufactured one year after the strike ended, and about seven years before the full implementation of the strike settlement.
