Royal

Although I would consider this one of the most iconic looks for a desktop typewriter, apparently consumers at the time did not like the flatbed design as it is "not how a typewriter is supposed to look". The Royal is a household name for writing machines. The advertisement posted to the left is from the same year as this model, posted in The Washington Times in Washington, D.C., on April 16, 1913, it indicates at least one speed and accuracy contest was won using this model of the Royal.
