According to Adler, the only difference between models 2, 3, and 4, all of which launched in 1896, were slight, such as number of keys and length of platen. You can see for yourself that they were advertised together in this 1895 ad, published August 26 in the Los Angeles Herald on page 4. This particular model happens to have an extremely low serial number suggesting it was one of the firsts off the line!
