Williams

The Williams 4 is one of my favorite typewriters because of the typing mechanism. John Newton Williams invented the machine to have a typebar action that made it appear that grasshopper legs were running as the typist wrote their works of art. It is a sheer pleasure to watch these machines in action! To your left you will find a picture of the inventor providing a testimonial to a product that was marketed to assist with indigestion. Apparently he became nervous which affected his stomach, took Paine's Celery Compound, and was cured. (From The Public Ledger, March 30, 1895.)
