The Smith Premier brand was started by the Smith brothers, who later formed the L C Smith Brothers Typewriter Company. This brand joined the Union Typewriter Company, and was lost in the agreement. An interesting feature of this machine was that the typist could clean the keys by turning a crank inserted in the center of the key basket until a circular brush rose to the key tips, wind the brush, and re-lower the brush.
